Here is a suggestion of Dr. Thomas Walsh from Indiana University “When I was student, I tried to keep the two styles separate in my mind by thinking of classical saxophone and jazz saxophone as two different instruments”.

As stated before, the equipment, embouchure and techniques of classical and jazz saxophone are almost in two different systems. Many of them are conflicting. Of course, they still share some fundamental skills like posture, fingering, and breathing etc. The situation is similar to brass instruments. All the brass instruments share the same fingering systems and similar embouchures. Yet each of them still has unique timbre, technique and slightly difference of embouchure. There are quite a lot of maestros that can play very well by one brass instrument. They still have to adapt and be aware of the differences when switching instruments. “Even though the classical and jazz saxophones are the same instrument, they are actually almost two different instruments” John Cottrell (2013). It has also been stated that the overlapping areas can actually help us to save time of practicing in two styles.
