Alan Lomax was born on 31st January 1915, to born to Bess Brown and John A. Lomax in Austin, Texas, United States. He was third of the four children and his father was a pioneer folklorist and author. He is best known as the 20th century’s most renowned field collector of folk music of America. Lomax also worked as ethnomusicologist, folklorist, archivist, scholar, writer, political activist, film-maker and oral historian.
