It has been established from the research that the leadership of the Chair of the Board, Artistic Director and General Manager are different to a larger extent. This indicates that the leadership differences among these roles are vulnerable. Therefore, the relationship between the two directors can be constrained because of the vastly different responsibilities. It is realised from the research that there are two key individuals across ACCA that share the positional roles of leadership and management (DeFrank-Cole and Nicholson, 2016). The case study analysis has suggested that both the Artistic Director and General Manager are positioned equally within the hierarchy to lead their individual teams within the bifurcated domains of arts and management.
Both the Artistic Director and Chief Executive Officer of ACCA is Max Delany. The Executive director and general manager of ACCA is Linda Mickleborough. The board of directors at ACCA consists of nine members wherein the Chair of the Board holds the experience in architecture and infrastructure. Moreover, Max is found to be accountable for the projects curating (Evans and Sinclair, 2016). The executive director namely Linda is undertakes the responsibilities of project coordination and consulting. The research has surfaced that democratic leadership is displayed by the board of directors at ACCA. The leadership of the board of directors is the primary influencer for the organizational practice, structure and culture across the ACCA.
Hence, the board of directors have placed the legal responsibilities of organization to a Finance Manager. The case study analysis enabled the insight that the Max has been provided with the primary accountability for the organization due to which he functions as the operating head of the organization through the position of Chief Executive Officer (Hewison et al., 2010). This leads to the consideration that primary accountability can at times create conflicts among the senior management such as with the general manager due to the lack of shared leadership. Hence, the board of directors are responsible for delegation of the day to day leadership power on the basis of the requirements. In this case, Max holds the primary power of making decisions associated with the creative art form processes of the organization.
