He was third of the four children and his father was a pioneer folklorist and author. He is best known as the 20th century’s most renowned field collector of folk music of America. Lomax also worked as ethnomusicologist, folklorist, archivist, scholar, writer, political activist, film-maker and oral historian. Lomax worked as an Assistant in Charge in the period of 1937 till 1942 at the Archive of Folk Song of the Library of Congress. They aim at emphasising on the connection between the folk music of American folk and traditional orchestral music. This gave Lomax opportunity to present and sing the work of artists like Woody Guthrie, Burl Ives, Lead Belly, the Golden Gate Quartet, Pete Seeger, and Josh White (Anon 2016).
