Markets for the lab on chip technology:
The lab on chip technology if thought as a future product can have a large market. As this technology can be used in all sectors like software industries, health care sector, general appliances and so on (Srinivasan, 2004). Currently the biggest market of lab on a chip technology is clinical diagnostic appliances and biotechnological appliances. The lab on a chip have bought remarkable changes in these field where lot of functions are being integrated on a single chip and diagnosis of DNA, RNA, Proteins and other such things are carried out.
Emerging of the Products:
The lab on a chip technology has been used in various products but still the process is quite slow. If we have a look in the past the technology started in 1966 but it was successfully used in 1990’s. Till now not all the products have used this technology. The reason for such slow progress is due to the fact that the technology itself is bit complicated and so high techniques are required to understand it and design it (Herold, 2009). Again the designing process involves lot of costs and it’s not applicable for all the sectors to integrate it in their product. Although the technology uses less reagents but still the technology itself is costly. All these reasons have not yet made this technology very popular. But scientists are hoping that in future with better ideas more work can be done on lab on a chip and used in a massive manner.
