Change in behaviour is not a onetime activity; it needs commitment, time, efforts and emotions to bring a consistent and permanent change in behaviour. Whenever a need of change in behaviour is felt, it needs a goal to be set for bringing the desired change into behaviour. Every change is started with a trial and error method which sometimes leads to discouragement if results are not seen clearly. So an individual needs continuous monitoring of his behaviour in the change process. To get the change implemented in behaviour, the individual needs to try new techniques to bring changes in the desired behaviour. The elements of change in behaviour include: The readiness of a person to change or willingness of a person to set the changes in his behaviour. Secondly, there are always barriers to change and it is the ability of how an individual manages those changes to bring a positive response in terms of desired changes as the part of behaviour. Lastly, though change might occur in behaviour and becomes the part of behaviour, there is always a situation of uncertainty of getting back to the former behaviour.

Pre-contemplation is the stage when people do not consider change and are in the state of denial for change, as individuals feel that there is no problem in their behaviours. People at this stage fail to recognize what damage their behaviour are doing to their personality and their image in front of others. Then comes the stage of Contemplation, at this stage individuals are aware of the consequences both positive and negative of the desired change in their behaviour but they tend to regret the desired change due to the cost associated with that change (Loyens, 2008). Then comes the stage of preparation and at this stage, small plans of minor changes are made that leads to a life time change. The next stage is the action stage of implementing the change into behaviour. This they do by avoiding the activities associated with former behaviour and introducing new changes into the behaviour. The relapse stage is where the individual still have chances of relapse in the behaviour. The change in behaviour is successful only when an individual won’t let the setbacks affect his desire to introduce changes into his behaviour.
