All through history, society has improved to achieve the notable to attain notable success despite various hindrances and obstacles. In today’s time, people enjoy the plethora of freedom and rights, which was not available for the people in traditional society. Change is the important and essential element as it provides new opportunities. The change also employs understanding of the society. The understanding of the society for the modern people is different from those who lived before the advent industrial revolution. Traditional and modernity are the two varied phases and the two different principles that are still evident in the North American Society. There have been societies across the globe that have preserved the conventional values and others societies which have moved moreover to some extent or totally towards Modernity. There have been many points of view towards this phenomenon, and this essay will concentrate on understanding these viewpoints. The paper will also reflect how the modern capitalist society has helped in expansion & prosperity of economy and emergence globalization. In addition, this paper will compare and contrast the traditional and modern society while displaying the main principles of both.
Overview: Traditional vs. Modern Societies
The second most important society which evolved is recognized as the modern society. In the modern society, freedom is understood to be the fundamental element for every individual. The force which oppresses such freedom is opposed in this new society. Other than traditional society the upward mobility is valued. Such mobility was opposed in traditional society because there status was ascribed by birth and through entire life. But in the modern society the status and respect of a person is not given by birth status, instead it is given by the individual’s own achievements in life (Thompson & Osella, 1991). The faith in power and happiness are hassled in modern society in comparison to traditional society, which avoided enjoyment in one’s life.
Self-satisfaction of the modern society had reinstated the work ethic and prudence of the traditional society. Reputation and status of an individual in modern society is associated to his earnings and wealth as distinct to the traditional society. According to which the prestige and status were based on the person’s occupation. Religion also played an important role in both the societies.
