Advocacy is considered as an activity that is commenced by either a group or an individual with the objective of influencing the decisions across the social, political and economic institutions and systems. Advocacy comprises of the various activities that are conducted by the advocate in the forms of public speaking, media campaigns, publishing a research and commissioning. One of the forms of advocacy is the lobbying wherein a direct contact is established with the legislators on the concern that plays a critical role in politics. It is to further take into account that the advocacy comprises of the practical information in order to bring the change in the society (Coulby, 2008). The advocacy is performed in majority of the cases to bring the change within the procedures, laws and policies of the government. Therefore, the advocacy functions as the action of favouring an issue and subsequently persuading the key individuals responsible for decision making over the manner in which reaction on issue will be advantageous for the involved parties. The research has surfaced that there are eight processes involved in advocacy. The initial process is to define the advocacy objectives wherein the change is proposed along with the element that needs modification.

The second process involved is to know the target audience for advocacy, hence the audience is selected and varied strategies for the audience are implemented. The third process consists of developing the message that is specific to audience, provides an overview of the case and the problem that requires being addressed (Hytten, 2011). Fourth process of advocacy is recognizing the messenger on the basis of the target audience. The fifth process is the identification of methods for delivery. In this process, the tactics are developed to reach the public and relevant bodies. The sixth process involves identifying the gaps and resources wherein the SWOT analysis is conducted. Seventh process of advocacy requires that the following steps are planned for achieving the objectives of advocacy and preparing the strategy consisting of the action, timelines, partners, resources, priority area and next steps (Keck and Sikkink, 2014). The final process of the advocacy requires the involved parties to evaluate the strategic effectiveness.
