4. How have the acquired companies performed?
In this research, a host of literature has been reviewed to understand the motivation for acquisitions by MNCs from the emerging nations. The research has been conducted to develop a framework for comprehending the motivation for outward FDI from emerging nations. A deductive research approach has been followed to explore the theoretical study of motivations and derive different case studies to explicate the drivers of motivation to acquire companies.
This research is segregated into six chapters each of which has significance to the area of study. The first chapter has explained the purpose of the study and has constructed the research objectives and questions to determine the course of the research. The second chapter has presented a comprehensive review of the literature and scholarly articles to understand the drivers of motivation for acquisition strategies and outward FDI coming from firms of emerging nations. The literature review has supported in the edifice of an analytical framework of motivations of outward FDI of emerging economy in contrast to the developed economy. The third chapter has presented the research methodology by elucidating the data collection methods and data analysis techniques for integrating the outcome of the research. In this research, secondary data has been collected from journal articles, the financial press, company websites, books and news articles to understand the concept of outward FDI and acquisition strategy with the purpose of internationalization. The secondary data has been analysed qualitatively to triangulate the data and limit its implication to the case of Wanda’s acquisition in the US. The fourth chapter is the representation of the results so obtained from the secondary data analysis and integrating the results with the research objectives and questions. The fifth chapter has presented a vivid discussion of the research results and the purpose of the research thereby determining the limitations of the study based on the validity and generalizability of the results. The discussion chapter is the integral part of the research as it has aimed to make a widespread application of theory to deduce the research questions based on Wanda’s case study. The last and the sixth chapter presented a summary of the findings and the overall study. This chapter has also identified recommendations on conducting a future research on generalizing the implication of OFDI from emerging economies to the advanced economies.
