The design style being investigated is a design movement which started in the early 1950s. The design styles are renowned because of the way they affect contemporary design. This was a design movement that grew to influence the graphic design style of the twentieth century in a holistic way (Hollis, 2006). The design styles introduced in this time were novel and unique. They were seen to have a longevity, which ensured that they could be applicable even in the contemporary generation. This design which originated from Switzerland Germany and continued to have many practical applications in the current generations is called the Swiss style.

To do this, primarily, the research will consider three main aspects, 1) Firstly, it will be necessary to talk about the history of Swiss style. The history of Swiss style reveals how the Swiss style came into being, what the key features of the style were and how the style became a very dominating feature in current graphic situation, because any art forms looking for the origins of the art forms is important. The history will help in understanding how the art form is viable in current practice even now. A history analysis will offer clues for understanding the longevity of the Swiss style. 2) The second main aspect of discussion is the characteristics of the Swiss style. For instance, it emphasizes cleanliness and readability, asymmetric layouts, use of grid, etc.3) The third main part of this paper is contemporary design use of the Swiss style. I would like to talk about some of the famous Swiss style designer. How Swiss style spread to the global world. They are actually relevant to how Swiss style affects nowadays graphic design.
Obviously, I choose a topic about Swiss style because it is relevant to what I am doing in the course. I always use the geometric shape, asymmetric layouts and emphasize the cleanliness for my graphic design. That’s why I would like to know the history, characteristic, how the design element and concept develop from 1920, which is the beginning of the Swiss style. And I think it is helpful to gain my knowledge about the graphic design history for me to present my own piece of artwork.
