The limitation to the works of Durkheim is that it overlooks the stability of societies. Societies keep on changing constantly, although most of the changes are minor. The broader elements of a society remain stable over a long duration. It focuses on equilibrium and solidarity and discards the conflicts theory. They must be combined in order to offer a broader and more comprehensive view of a society.
Durkheim has often being criticized for him being a functionalist as well as a positivist. He believed that social laws are invariant and exist to explain the social phenomenon which is applicable to all societies. He does not explain the objective of nature of social facts by neglecting the subjective interpretations that all the social actors might have a social phenomenon in general to control the social forces. His basic assumption was that people are driven by their passion for satisfaction and gratification. He has often being termed as a conservative because of his works on understanding the relationship between morality and sociology.
