Interview preparation
Standardised interview protocols and schedules will be conducted with the knowledge from literature review before designing the questions. Then the questions will be designed by the researcher based on information from the literature review. The researcher will study the current linkage between music and paintings researches to identify the appropriate questions. After the questions are conducted, the researcher will pilot the questions with one of the customers. If the piloting interview is valid and reliable, it will be used as one of the formal interviews for this research.

Interview settings
It is important to consider the interview settings to ensure the reliability (De Vaus, 2004; Gratton and Jones, 2004). The researcher will make a requirement in the interview consent letter to allow the participants to make decision on the location. It will be required that the location needs to be comfortable, private and quite (Gratton and Jones, 2004). The interviews will be recorded by a camcorder. Permission for recording will also be asked in the interview consent letter (ibid).

Interview transcription and analysis
All the transcriptions will be produced by the researcher as soon as the interviews finished. It will then be saved as RTF in order to be loaded on QSRNvivo for the analysis process. The nodes within the interview transcripts will then be developed inductively in order for the researcher to establish and triangulate the emergent themes.

Document review
The researcher will request the electronic copy of the documents from the regional manager. This may require a confidentiality agreement to be used in order to satisfy the ethical properties of the study. It is possible that the documents come as hard copy. In this case, the researcher will need to scan the documents with an optical character recognition [OCR] scanner. The electronic copy of the documents will then be saved as RTF in order to be loaded on QSRNvivo for the analysis process. The nodes within the documents will then be developed inductively in order to establish and triangulate the emergent themes.

Group interviews
There will be four group interviews within this study: three customers in a group in the same place. The purposes of these focus groups are to identify the music affect of difference between individual and group customers.

Group interview preparations
Similar with the preparations for the interviews, the group interviews will follow the standardised interview protocols and schedules which will be set up before designing the questions. After the questions being designed, they will be piloted with each group. If the data from these two interviews are valid and reliable, it will be used for the data analysis. The researcher will send consent letters to ask for volunteer consumers to participate in this research. Criteria then will be set up by the researcher to select six consumers in the place to participate in the group interview. It will consider the gender and age balance within the group. The researcher will also consider issues like how like the consumers interested in Chinese paintings, and how often do they visit Chinese art gallery.

Group interview settings
Like interviews, it is important to consider the settings for focus groups to ensure the reliability (De Vaus, 2004; Gratton and Jones, 2004). It will be essential that the location needs to be comfortable, private and quite (Gratton and Jones, 2004). After considering all the factors (e.g. time, cost, transport), the researcher felt that all the focus groups should be held in the Liverpool John Moores University meeting room. This will be clarified in the participation consent letter. Every focus group will be recorded on a camcorder. All the participants will have a name badge on during the focus group which will help the researcher with identification issues in data transcription and analysis. Permission for recording will also be asked in the interview consent letter (Gratton and Jones, 2004).

Group interview transcriptions and analysis
The group interviews will be transcribed and analysed in the same process as the individual interviews.

Ethical issues
This study will follow the guidelines provided by the Market Research Society [MRS] (MRS, 2005) (See Appendix 1 for the list). As discussed in the methods section, consent letters will be sent to the potential informants in the preparation stage of this study. As well as asking for the informants’ consent to participate in this research, the letter will also state the issues about anonymity, confidentiality, right to withdraw information, data storage and destruction. This research will be a confidential case study which is based on informant anonymity. The raw data will safely stored by the research who will be the only person to have the right to access it, and it will be destroyed once the study is completed. The University and the informants have the right to withdraw the relevant information with the permission from the researcher. All the data within this study will be solely used for academic purpose.

Potential Benefits
As the ongoing project of Art Seed Gallery exhibition in England, the researcher is an employee of Art Seed Gallery in China, also has been involved in Chinese paintings industry for more than 5 years. This investigation firstly can expand the Art Seed Gallery’s business efficiency, also contributes the art exhibition between China and Britain in the future. More importantly, for future research to make a new theory.
