According to psychology and sociology the term “self-esteem” refers to the subjective emotional assessment of his/her self-worth of an individual. In other words it can be stated that self-esteem means judging oneself and also his/her attitude towards the self. It also encompasses the beliefs that an individual have about him/her. For instance “I am confident” “I have worth” etc are some sentences that expresses an individual’s emotional state of mind such as happiness, hopelessness, infamy or pride. It has been observed that an individual with insecure attachment in their infancy has a chance of developing low-self-esteem. It has been observed that self-esteem does not develop because of praising or just by giving them a trophy. It comes from his/her experience over the years through which they develop the feelings that they are socially accepted, capable and effective. For instance, when a child learn and start doing things by themselves they start to develop the feelings that they are capable. When children see his/her parents’ attachment towards them they feel that they are accepted. When they achieve something by trying hard they become effective (Ainsworth et al., 1978).

According to psychology temperament is an amalgamation of mental, emotional and physical traits of an individual and his/her natural inclination (Sroufe, 2001). Peculiarities of human being in expressing their feelings, actions or tempers, unwillingness to submit to conservative systems and restraints are all considered to be part of temperament. It is a neurobiological trait that differs from individual to individual. Though it has its origin in genes, but different incidences of early childhood days plays a vital role in shaping it either positively or negatively. Infants start showing variable level of emotional, social and activity trends which remain constant over a certain period of time thus temperament becomes obvious. It has been suggested by scientists that by understanding a child’s temperament parents can shape their parenting styles to allow better rarely of their children (Ma, 2006). There are three different temperament traits in children they are “easy children” who are mentally flexible and can adjust with their surroundings very easily. “Difficult children” becomes easily frustrated and shows negative social interactions and “fearful children” generally remain withdrawn from the surroundings within themselves when exposed to new stimuli and their level of activities are also low. A child’s temperament can have immense impact on his/her attachment. Researchers and scientists always advise parents to change their parenting style according to their child’s temperament in order to boost positive and healthy attachment between the children and his/her parents or care-giver.
