Where the boys have lesser guidance, they get to take decisions that are independent of any other responsibility. They might think only of themselves, the absence of message equals the message “be independent”, according to the management and case study lectures. Girls on the other hand are seen to be raised to negotiate every situation. Girls would analyze situations and based on analysis would decide to take a decision. This virtue of the girl child and some of the more traditional and stereotypical womanly virtues supposedly help them in becoming good managers in the future. Now when I ponder what to make of this premise, I would say albeit it sounds downright supporting stereotypical notions, somewhere the sentence makes sense. Women do not jump into situations right away impulsively, and if they do they learn better. Women also tend to negotiate situations in the mind in order to understand the best possible course of action that delivers benefits for themselves as well as others around them. Yes, these virtues are stereotypical because not all women are like this, but that does not mean these virtues such as negotiation and reasoning does not make a good manager. I think a better way to have stated this is irrespective of the male child or female child, when the child negotiates and reasons in making a decision and wonders about how others around them are impacted by the decision, and then they would definitely make a good manager. Where the boys have lesser guidance, they get to take decisions that are independent of any other responsibility. This could be a positive development, if one was to consider the stereotype as just a stereotype and understand the virtue as being separated from the stereotype. Any children irrespective of gender could have the virtues of patience, compassion and more which is stereotypically attributed to only the girl child or the woman. Any individual with these virtues would be a good manager and would play a positive role in management. This development of understanding women, stereotypical notions, virtues and the workplace management is definitely a good thing. It brings forth arguments on why these notions are stereotypical and why it is necessary to understand those virtues as belonging to everybody and not just the woman. On the other hand, if I was to argue for this same development as a negative perception, I believe that there is not much knowledge to gain. It might just end up as one more thing that feminists are always fighting for and which nobody ends up listening. In thinking of it as a positive development, it will at least be possible to bring the issue to light for a proper debate.
