The popular genres in most movies have been predominately western, science fiction, horror and gangster movies since the early 1980’s (Hess, 1974). The definition of defining a gangster movie depends largely on the rhetoric message it tries to convey and changes with the development of the society. It has been found that rather to say certain genres seem to do well it is better to say that individual play or movie has been done well. It is found that popular genre films deal with the present factors influencing people and how the movies connect with the viewed. It was however in the late 1980’s that a different style emerged. The rise of the fifth generation beginning in the mid-late 1980’s saw a new influx of movies that were made world popular by filmmakers trained in the Beijing Film Academy. Here the filmmakers left behind the traditional genre of storytelling and moved on to more unorthodox methods. Movies of different periods were made in a more liberal light, which the international world was able to better connect too.
