I would like to pursue Philosophy major for the College of Art and Science in New York University. I have spent a considerable amount of time in retrospection about myself and have found that my main aim is to work as a group towards a common opinion. It is my opinion that I would be a great fit for the course that I am applying. The reason for pursuing psychology is to understand people. Right from my childhood I feel that I am an empathetic person and I hope to understand the needs of the people and work together with people from different ideologies. This has been my driving passion. I really do want to find ways to help people and finding amiable ways to be a leader. I believe that a person can learn a lot from their failures than the success. Failure can be a way in which the people can learn about their innate talents and also understand what factor they need to develop in life. In the past year, I unsuccessfully tried to create an after school program for the underprivileged kids. I was not organized nor did I understand how difficult it is to secure funds to run a program. In my community I found that there were a number of kindergarten students who did not have access to learning tools. This leads to eventual dropping out from school. Thus I tried to bring in people to teach the students. However the first major impediment that I faced was securing donors for the operation. From dealing with the students I understood that everyone has a unique talent and there should be basic resources to harness the talent of the people. This made me realize the importance of securing finances. I was not able to secure the finance from people. In one particular incident a person told me that they do not believe a teenager would have the right mind or the technical know how to conduct such an ambitious venture. I argued that there should be a starting point and I want to start by creating an innovative place. The person then told me that it is good to have dreams but it is more important to have a clear path for developing the dream. I want to work on this passion of helping the people and developing innovative products for the next generation. It might sound cliché but Steve Jobs and Larry Page are my mentors. They did not succeed solely on their technical abilities but they were able to work with people and create newer dimensions and products. They were businessmen who had the technical knowledge of the systems. I want to be such a person. This effort made me understand that it is normal for the people to not trust a teenager to perform according to their expectations. I want to be instrumental in bringing out the talents of the people and be self-funded to teach the people.
