Lab on a chip is currently one of the most widely used technologies that have solved various kinds of issues in every sector of the industries. The device Lab on chip is such that it integrates various functions of a laboratory on a single chip. The size of the chip is very small which is around some millimetres to some centimetres. Even the fluid holding capacity of the chip is very less which is around some Pico litres (Herold, 2009). It is really surprising that such a small device can hold so much information. Because of this reason the lab on chip device is also known as “Micro Total Analysis Device”. The lab on chip device is actually the sub division of Micro electrochemical system (MEMS) devices.
Advantages of the Lab on a chip:
• The multifunctional chip uses very less amount of fluids for any diagnosis process which means that only by adding a very small amount of reagents or sample fluids on the chip can detect and give the result. For e.g. in DNA microarrays in order to test the DNA the DNA is added in micro litre or even in nano litre (Schulte, 2002). This is very advantageous as it reduces the cost of the reagents that is being used for each experiment.
