In Peter Singer’s “All Animals are Equal”, he thinks that every being is equal and nonhumans in the end will gain their rights. We should give equal respect to animals as we give to humans. However, in order to realize it, we have to give equal considerations to every non-human. He believes that once we consider nonhumans equally, the treatment and attitudes we have toward them will change drastically. He maintains the view that we are all speciesists and question the reason why animals have to suffer. We treat them as a source of food and also for the purpose of conducting experiments. The most direct way in which people interact with animals is by consuming them. Humans prefer to keep animals in cages or cells for their entire life, while we feed them and take care of them everyday so that we can exploit them by either taking away their skins or eating them. He thinks that people have to stop consuming them and experimenting on them because nonhumans have the right to live their lives. Therefore, Singer thinks that animals are treated in a discriminating manner and we must stop this kind of treatment against them. In Tom Reagan’s “The case for Animals Rights”, he shows the concept of subject-of-a-life. He states that humans and nonhumans are morally equal because they both are subject-of-a-life. To mean by subject-of-a-life, Regan means that such beings have the knowledge that they are existent in this world and they have emotions, desires, sensations and so forth. As long as these beings comply with these requirements, they have the right and are morally equal no matter whether they are humans or nonhumans.

He maintains the moral status of animals and states the differences between moral agents and moral patients. According to him, moral agents are those who have the ability to do right things with morality whereas the moral patients do not have the capacity to do right or wrong things and they cannot control what they are doing.
