The name of the other naturalist who developed the idea of biological evolution at the same time as Charles Darwin is Alfred Russell Wallace. Both Alfred and Darwin have equally contributed in the field of evolution but Alfred’s name is less known to people because he was not able to promote his role in the invention properly. His ideas laid the foundation of evolution but by the time it reached to people, they were already under the influence of Darwin’s “theory of natural selection”. They both came up with the same idea at the same time because Alfred got the idea of struggle for existence and natural selection and sent a mail to Darwin but it is believed that Darwin kept the details with him and did not let it published and also he used some ideas from it and hence came up with almost similar theory (Haviland, 2013, 35-60). The other important names in the field of biological evolution are the geologists John Phillips, Adam Sedgwick and William Buckland and Charles Lyell.
